Hot Apple Cider

Who says the kids get all the treats?  Here’s a delicious treat for yourself as you give out the candy – Hot Apple Cider. This beverage can be made in advance.  Just bring it to a simmer to reheat. (Bonus: Your house will smell wonderful!) For a grown up treat, add a little rum or brandy, if you like, to spike it up a bit.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Hot Apple Cider (makes 2 quarts)

Ingredients:

  • 1 tsp whole allspice
  • 1 tsp whole cloves
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • Dash of nutmeg
  • 2 quarts apple cider
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Instructions:

  1. Wrap the allspice, cloves, cinnamon sticks and nutmeg in cheesecloth or place in a tea ball.
  2. Pour the apple cider, sugar and salt in a saucepan. Add the spices.
  3. Bring to a slow boil.
  4. Reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes.
  5. Remove spices and serve.  Add a cinnamon stick for garnish (optional)
