Grilled Tuna Sandwich with Wasabi Mayonnaise

In a former life, I traveled for a living. I flew out Monday am , flew home Friday pm, visited the dry cleaner on Saturday, packed on Sunday ……. I frequently visited Minneapolis, where one of my lunch spots served a tuna sandwich, which I ate every visit.  I know what you’re thinking – a Tuna Sandwich?  While I do love tuna salad sandwiches, there was no canned stuff here, this was a real tuna steak, served on a bun with lettuce, tomato and wasabi mayonnaise. Yum !! It’s a sandwich that I like to replicate at home.  It’s fancy enough for company and best of all – it’s ready in ten minutes.

The wasabi mayonnaise is so simple – just mayonnaise and wasabi paste.  Jazzing up mayonnaise is a great example of less is more – even combining mayonnaise and ketchup makes a great quick spread.  Try adding chili sauce, curry powder, capers, or lemon juice/zest- and voila you’ve got a ‘fancy’ sauce.
